Understanding how the pandemic affects the industry in the short and long run at a local and internal level is what you must first understand. Consider whether the industry will grow or shrink because of the pandemic. For lost jobs, what are the possibilities of coming back? Which jobs will experience lower demand, and which will be in more demand is another aspect that you must consider. As the industry enters a new phase, understand the skills necessary to succeed in the new mold. Also, try to understand if there will be any shift in work like more focus on project-based, flexible work over full-time employment.
Address the skill gaps
Understand the skill gaps during and after the pandemic and identify the skills that would be in most demand so that you can prioritize acquiring those skills and tools. Figure out what those skills are and find out the best ways and resources to build those skills. Besides choosing the skills, learn how to select the learning resources that would be most relevant and conducive for you, and help you to advance. Consider which courses or training providers have clearly defined learning objectives and recognized by the industry.
Stay focused and energized
We are going through challenging times and face enormous mental challenges on various fronts – family, health, financial, personal relationships, and many others. It is important to be aware of the challenges you are facing and have a plan to mitigate it so that it does not linger and pull you behind, which can be highly demotivating. Staying fit and healthy should be the primary goal by paying attention to eating habits with a focus on nutrition, sleep patterns, and exercise. Work out ways to have better control over your finances. Since finding new jobs will take time, create a plan for what you need to do, and stay mentally prepared to face the challenges and even accept failure by knowing how to overcome it.
